About the Role
An established, self-perform heavy civil contractor is hiring an Assistant Project Manager to support roadway, highway, and bridge construction in the Richmond market. This is a build seat, not a paperwork seat. You work alongside the Project Manager on live, already won work and take real ownership of buyout, submittals, cost tracking, and subcontractor coordination.
What You'll Do
- Support the Project Manager across roadway, highway, bridge, and sitework projects
- Own submittals, RFIs, and procurement tracking on long lead materials
- Track project costs, quantities, and production against budget
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and self perform crews day to day
- Prepare and process change orders, pay applications, and monthly reporting
- Interface with DOT and owner representatives, designers, and inspectors
- Support superintendents and field leadership on sequencing and means and methods
- Help enforce safety and quality standards across field operations
What You'll Need
- 7 to 12 years of heavy civil construction experience
- Hands on exposure to roadway, highway, or bridge construction
- Working understanding of budget, schedule, and cost tracking on self perform civil work
- Experience on DOT funded projects preferred
- Comfortable in scheduling and PM tools such as Primavera P6, HCSS, or Procore
- Richmond based or open to relocating to the Richmond area
Compensation & Benefits
- $120,000 to $145,000 base salary, depending on experience
